How nobles once lived

Surrounded by trees and perhaps even a moat, the grand country estates known as ‘borgs’ stand out in contrast to the surrounding fields. In centuries past there were over a hundred of these classic noble residences in the province of Groningen, of which only sixteen survive today. Fortunately, the remaining ‘borgen’ are some of the best, considered veritable masterpieces of regional architecture.
